I love a really good DIY beauty recipe and researching what is great for our skin and hair, so i have put together a few DIY hair masks that you can use on various hair types from really dry to an oily build up.
I’ve tried all of these and use a hair mask at least once weekly. My hair is towards the dry type but i only wash it a couple of times a week as it’s not great to be washing your hair daily, this also helps it grow quickly!
DEEP CLEAN MASK
This mask uses lemon and apple cider vinegar which are great for eliminating excess oils. The Yogurt is moisturising while helping to wash away any access oils and product build up. (Lemon can be a natural hair lightener so be sure to dilute with water). You just mix 1/2 cup of plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon or apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of lemon (with a couple teaspoons of water to dilute). Massage this into your scalp and apply all over, leave on for a couple of minutes!
This is my favourite mask as it suits my hair type the best. It only has three ingredients; banana,olive oil and honey. Extra virgin olive oil acts as a natural conditioner for the hair and is very nourishing. Bananas are rich in potassium which heals damaged hair, the honey has restorative properties and smells amazing!! Just blend all of the ingredients together (blending is better otherwise you end up with chunks of banana!) and apply all over your hair, leave it on for 10-15 minutes then rinse out.
OIL CONTROL MASK
For this mask you just need 5-7 ripe strawberries, 1/2 cup of yogurt and 1/2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, which helps control oil and wash it away. They are also good for regulating your skins PH. The yogurt is very moisturising and washes away any build up. Lastly the apple cider vinegar is known for eliminating any access oils. Blend all these ingrediants together well and apply to mainly the scalp and top section of your hair, leave it on for 2-3 minutes then rinse it off!
Egg contains the highest quality of protein that you can find from any other food. This protein helps to nourish your hair. Additionally, eggs are packed with fatty acids to make your hair look shiny. Milk and coconut oil both naturally soften the hair, just like they do for your skin, making it look more shiny and vibrant. The heat from this mask also opens up the hair follicles and really penetrates the hair. Just whisk 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk, 2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil. Mix them all together, this can get quite watery and is best applied with a small brush, or you can add some conditioner to thicken it up. Put it on your hair but make sure to avoid the top (around 1/2 inch from roots). Cover your hair in a shower cap or cling film and leave on for around 20 minutes then rinse!
