A few weeks back my boyfriend and I took a trip to the lakes for the weekend with a group of our friends. We love it in the lakes and we go as often as we can – we actually went the same time last year. As a big group, we hired two big log cabin type static caravans and stayed there for the weekend. We set off on the Friday evening and it took about two hours to drive there (with a stop for delicious sausage and chips!). I love the drive there as there is so much wildlife to see once you exit the motorway and as it is lambing season we saw so many tiny baby lambs! I was in my element. Once we got there and checked in, we went to meet the others and had some dinner. The food at the holiday park was quite nice and even though I only had a salad I really enjoyed it! We went back to one of the cabins and spent a few hours there before going to bed in our cabin.
On the Saturday we all drove into Bowness-on-Windermere and stopped at a little ice cream and waffle place which we sat outside at as the weather was gorgeous. My boyfriend and I shared a waffle and a drink and demolished it within minutes – it was delicious though! After we had eaten up and were ready, we walked along the lake side and hired boats for an hour. We did the same last year and loved it so all agreed to do it again. As there was a big group of us we had to hire two boats out at the same time. Out on the lake it was quite still as there was not much wind and the sun was shining. It is so lovely being on the lake and being able to peek at some of the most incredible houses right on the lake side.
The boys then went and played at the pitch and putt so the girls went and had a few drinks at a rooftop bar whilst we waited for them to finish. Once we found the boys again we went back to the cabins and ordered a chinese and had a night in.
We woke up on the Sunday and packed our things as we were leaving that afternoon. We all went into Windermere for some lunch at an Italian place and were able to sit outside as the sunshine was out again! I had a really lovely meatball pasta dish (although it wasn’t as good as when my boyfriend and I make it at home) and felt so full afterwards. Once we had all paid for our food we went for a walk around Windermere before the boys went to play one last game of pitch and putt! Us girls decided to walk to another bar where we could sit outside in the sun and enjoy a few drinks before it was time to leave.
Before I knew it, it was time to leave and we started the drive back home to Leeds. It was a lovely weekend spent with lovely people and I can’t wait to do it all over again.
Lots of love, Meg xxxxxx
